Literature Study of Flavonoid and Phenolic Profiles in Plants Genus Eucheuma


Indonesia's marine wealth is very abundant and the potential to explore its contents is very large, including algae. The type of algae that is most widely used in Indonesia is the Eucheuma Genus. Several studies have reported that this genus has various bioactive effects including anti-bacterial, anti-cancer and antioxidant properties, among others. Of course, this biological activity cannot be separated from the compounds contained therein such as secondary metabolite compounds, among these compounds the most commonly found are flavonoids and phenolics. This research is a literature study that aims to determine the types of methods for testing the levels and biological activity of flavonoids and phenolics in plants of the genus Eucheuma which are expected to be a reference in the development and discovery of new drugs in the future. The method used is a literature study in the form of an analysis of articles related to or having keywords related to flavonoids and phenolic compounds in the genus Eucheuma using the PICO method. The results of the analysis conducted showed that the types of flavonoids found in this genus were quercetin 9.36 ± 0.12 and 16.85 ± 0.11 routines. Meanwhile, the phenolic types found were tannins 0.07 ± 0.015, phenol 6.7 ± 0.02 pholorotanin O, 018 g / .g. and hydroquinone 3.02 ± 0.80. The conclusion from the analysis of several articles, the types of flavonoids identified from several studies that have been carried out on Eucheuma species are quarcetin and routine, while for phenolic compounds found in Eucheuma, namely tannins, phlorotannins, phenols and hydroquinones and the biological activity of flavonoids, namely antioxidants and antibacterials and for phenolics, namely anti-cancer, sun protection, antioxidants, antidiabetic, anti-tumor, and antibacterial.
