MANAJEMEN ASUHAN KEBIDANAN PADA BAYI BARU LAHIR DENGAN BAYI BERAT LAHIR SANGAT RENDAH (Literatur Review)

Newborns are classified to have low birth weight if they weigh less than 2500 grams regardless the pregnancy condition. Low birth weight was classified into three categories namely LBW (Low Birth Weight) with the weight of 1500-2499 gram, VLBW (Very Low Birth Weight) with the weight of 1000-1499 gram, and ELBW (Extremely Low Birth Weight) with the weigh of less than 1000 gram. The most common problems occurring with the case of low birth weight are asphyxia, hypothermia, respiratory problems, digestive disorders, jaundice, and neonatal infections and death. It was also apparent from the research that 59% of infant mortality in Indonesia occurs during the neonatal period. Therefore, some efforts have to be done in order to reduce the neonatal mortality rate.
Based on the results of previous studies, the examination and diagnosis of low birth weight cases were carried out by weighing the baby after birth, measuring the symphysis-fundus height and the gestational age, and conducting the USG examination. The are various methods of treatment that could be given for a baby with very low birth weight (VLBW). The methods include the use of an incubator, the implementation of the kangaroo method, the consistent monitoring on the weight gain of a baby, and the nutritional fulfillment of a baby.
The methodological approach taken in this study was literature review. This study was conducted by utilising a 7-stage Varney midwifery care management approach and SOAP documentation procedure.
This literature review research concludes that the effective and proper midwifery treatment should be implemented for the patient with the case of extremely low birth weight (ELBW). The treatments could be in the forms of checking the vital signs o fthe patient, checking the signs of complications, and fulfilling the nutrition of a baby.
